The store features an Amsterdam-inspired design with local elements used throughout. A striking half-moon shaped bar inspired by the nearby Starbucks Amsterdam Roastery, where its coffee beans are locally roasted is a key feature of the space and the centerpiece is custom artwork by local artist, Johan Moorman – bringing to life Starbucks’ history in the Netherlands.
Equipped with Starbucks’ iconic Mastrena espresso machines, guests will enjoy a premium coffeehouse experience complemented by a homemade dining menu, including freshly baked croissants with smoked salmon, avocado or pastrami, hearty focaccias filled with mortadella, chicken or eggplant, and a selection of warm grilled sandwiches, ideal for moments of comfort between flights.
"We are proud to unveil this outstanding Starbucks location in Europe at Schiphol Airport,” said Walter Seib, CEO Northern, Central and Eastern Europe at Avolta. “This opening reflects Avolta’s commitment to delivering exceptional travel experiences by blending globally loved brands with authentic local character. With its unique design, extended food offering, and close connection to Starbucks' Amsterdam Roastery, this store offers travelers a true sense of place. It is also particularly special to us, as it marks a return to the exact location where we opened our very first Starbucks store at Schiphol back on June 25th, 2007, which was the very first Starbucks introduction in the Netherlands.”
A spokesperson for Starbucks continued: “We are delighted to welcome passengers and staff to our new store in Schiphol Airport, opened on Tuesday 1st July. The store has been thoughtfully designed, featuring a sweeping bar and upscale seating areas that reflect both comfort and elegance. Design details like the fluted copper panelling nod to the industrial heritage of our nearby Amsterdam Roasting Plant. Visitors will also find references to some of the city’s most iconic elements - from canals and bicycles to its tall, gabled architecture - brought to life through the beautiful in-store artwork by Johan Moorman. Starbucks coffeehouse experience defines our brand and is what has always set us apart - being a welcoming coffeehouse where people gather, and where we serve the finest coffee, handcrafted by our skilled baristas. We’ll be open 24 hours a day to serve travellers from around the world, and we look forward to sharing this new space with our customers.”
Arthur Reijnhart, Director Schiphol Commercial, concluded: “The arrival of this Starbucks is extra special to us; not only because of its size and appearance, but also because it is a return to where Starbucks started in the Netherlands. It aligns perfectly with the new experience we want to offer in Lounge 1, with more quality and comfort for our travellers.”
The Starbucks opening is part of Schiphol’s broader Lounge 1 redevelopment, following Avolta’s successful launch of Salon & Deli in April 2024 and most recently Loaf. Together, these offerings contribute to a refreshed, modern experience for the millions of travelers who pass through Schiphol every year and reflect a shared ambition to transform the travel experience for passengers, at one of Europe’s largest airports.
